LENTEN PRAYER GUIDE

FOR THE CHURCH AND ONE ANOTHER

LENT

Lent is a 40-day preparatory period (excluding Sundays) in which Christians remember the events leading up to and including the death of Jesus Christ.  Lent begins on Ash Wednesday- Not only a day set apart to remember our humanity and repentance of our sin, but also a declaration of devotion to our God.

Lent points us toward our humanity and the need for a Savior.

HOLY WEEK – CHRIST

Sunday-

On this Palm Sunday, remember the triumphal entry of a Savior, riding a colt, to the cheers of joy, adoration, and praise.  May we celebrate the servant leadership of a colt-riding Savior sacrificially approaching the hardest week of his life.

Monday

Spend time meditating on the Disciples understanding (and sometimes lack of understanding) of Christ? How is our own understanding similar and how does it differ?

Tuesday

Reflect upon the fact that the Almighty God chose to limit self and to become fully human.  Jesus experienced life, chose relationship, and chose you.  Reflect upon and thank God for the magnitude of this decision.

Wednesday

Reflect upon all the events leading up to the cross: the miracles, the beginning of understanding, the simple time that Christ gave to be with others, the care and empathy that He showed, the understanding and the misunderstanding of who He was; from the celebration of the Triumphal Entry, the serving of the disciples, the betrayal, the selection of a murderer over The King of kings, and to the walking of the longest walk in history to his sacrifice for you.  May we remember this journey today.

Thursday-

On this Maundy Thursday meditate on the fact that in his last hours before his crucifixion, He knowingly picked up the bowl and wash cloth to wash the feet of the one who was about to betray him.

Friday-

It’s difficult to call this “Good Friday.” But the reality is that the salvation of the world came through not only this day, but through the most sacrificial act that has or will ever occur.  This is the day that allows Sunday to come.  Jesus sacrificed his life for you.  May we reflect upon, repent, and express thanks for the greatest act of Love the world has ever seen!

Saturday

On this Holy Saturday, thank God that we are not alone.  Thank God that He did not abandon us, nor will ever abandon us. On this final day of Lent, thank God for this time spent together.

EASTER SUNDAY

EASTER SUNDAY!  The greatest day in human history - The reason why we celebrate a LIVING God!  CELEBRATE that we CAN LIVE today with Him!  Celebrate our Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord!

Thank you, JESUS!

AMEN!

Saturday

When we gather to worship, pray that our own preferences, traditions, or fears of the unknown would not keep us from fully experiencing the presence of the Holy Spirit.
